Geography of Laodicea
Laodicea, an ancient Greek city on the Lycus River in southwestern Asia Minor, near present-day Denizli, Turkey. Laodicea was in a fertile valley at the crossroads of ancient trade routes. The city was an early center of Christianity. Saint Paul wrote to the church in Laodicea (Colossians 4:16). Some scholars believe this letter has been lost, while others believe it is what is now called the Letter to the Ephesians. The church was one of seven in Asia criticized in Revelation (1:4; 3:14-22) for lack of zeal.
There were several smaller cities by this name in Asia Minor and elsewhere.
