The Arno River

Arno River, a river in Italy. Its source is in the Apennine Mountains of Tuscany at an altitude of nearly 4,000 feet (1,200 m). The Arno, about 150 miles (240 km) long, winds southeastward and then northwestward through the rugged uplands. Near Florence it turns westward and flows across the rich farmlands of the Tuscany plain. It enters the Ligurian Sea seven miles (11 km) below Pisa. The Arno is connected with the Tiber River by the canalized Chiani River.
