Geography of Bydgoszcz
Bydgoszcz, Poland, a city near the Vistula River, about 140 miles (225 km) northwest of Warsaw. Bydgoszcz is an industrial center, producing paper and wood products, chemicals, machinery, processed foods, clothing, and shoes. The city was founded in the 14th century. It was virtually destroyed in 1656 during the Northern War, but was rebuilt and became a commercial center. With the partition of Poland in 1772 Bydgoszcz passed to Prussia. It was included in Poland when that country was reestablished in 1919.
