Mount Makalu

Makalu, the world's fifth highest mountain. It rises 27, 824 feet (8,481 m) above sea level, and is steeper than Mount Everest. Makalu is in the Himalayas, 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Mount Everest, on the border between Tibet and eastern Nepal. The summit was first reached in 1955, by a French expedition led by Jean Franco.
