Geography of Tangshan

Tangshan, or T'ang-shan, China, a city in Hebei province, about 100 miles (160 km) east-southeast of Beijing, the national capital. Tangshan lies on a main railway line to Manchuria in a rich coal-mining region. It is a center for iron and steel manufacturing and other heay metallurgical industries. In 1976 two earthquakes nearly destroyed the city, killing several hundred thousand persons.
