Rose of Sharon, or Althea, a shrub native to eastern Asia. It is widely cultivated for its showy flowers, which appear in late summer or early fall. The plant grows to 15 feet (4.6 m) tall and bears white, red, purple, yellow, or violet flowers three inches (7.5 cm) or more wide. Both single- and double-flowered varieties are cultivated. Some varieties are hardy in the northern United States and southern Canada.

Rose of Sharon is Hibiscus syriacus of the mallow family, Malvaceae.
