Mock Orange (Philadelphus): Cultivation & Characteristics

Mock Orange

Mock Orange

Mock Orange, or Syringa, a genus of North American and Eurasian shrubs. Most species grow to a height of 10 feet (3 m). The leaves grow opposite each other. The white flowers, which may grow singly or in clusters, resemble orange blossoms in appearance and fragrance. Syringa was the early botanical name for the mock orange, but was later used to designate the lilac. However, the name remains in common use for the mock orange.

The common mock orange is Philadelphus coronarius of the saxifrage family, Saxifragaceae.
