Meadow Rue, or Thalictrum, a large genus of perennial herbs of Europe, Asia, and North America. Most species have erect, branching stems 1 1/2 to 4 feet (45 to 120 cm) high. The plants bear fernlike leaves and loose clusters of small greenish-white or purplish flowers. Male and female flowers grow on separate plants. Meadow rue is often grown in low, open spots in wild gardens.

Meadow rue belongs to the genus Thalictrum of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae.
