Ironwood

Ironwood, a name given to many trees and shrubs having exceptionally hard and durable wood. In the United States the name is usually applied to the American and hop hornbeams. Other American ironwoods are the Catalina ironwood of California and the desert ironwood of the Southwest.

Catalina ironwood is Lyonothamnus floribundus; desert ironwood is Olneya tesota.
