Day Lily
Day Lily, a perennial plant grown for its lilylike blossoms. There are about 15 species and many hybrid forms. The individual blossoms last only one day, but new blossoms appear on succeeding days and may keep the plant in bloom for a month or more. The flowers, usually shades of red or yellow, are borne on long branched stalks that are usually longer than the narrow, sword-shaped leaves. Plants range in height from about one foot (30 cm) to six feet (1.8 m) or more. Day lilies grow well in full sun or partial shade.
Day lilies make up the genus Hemerocallis of the lily family, Liliaceae.
