Aspidistra
Aspidistra, a genus of plants noted for their large, abundant leaves. They are native to Asia. Only one species, often called the cast-iron plant, is cultivated. It has numerous tough, evergreen leaves, 15 to 30 inches (38 to 76 cm) long, that grow from underground stems. The dull-brown, bell-shaped flowers are usually hidden by the leaves.
The cast-iron plant is Aspidistra lurida (or A. elatior ). The Aspidistras make up the genus Aspidistra in the butcher's broom family, Ruscaceae.
