Flower Show
Flower Show, an exhibit in which flowering plants and foliage plants are displayed according to rules set by a governing committee. A show is usually sponsored by a garden club, but exhibits are also staged by fairs and community organizations. Usually there are separate classes for amateur and professional growers. Some shows charge an entry fee to exhibitors. Awards may be in cash or in ribbons.
In specimen classes, the flowers must have been grown by the exhibitor. Specimens are judged on such qualities as contour and color. In judging foliage plants, size and rarity are considered. Flowers and plantings for arrangement classes may be bought from a professional grower. Arrangements include displays for tables; shadow boxes; and miniatures, as for roadside plantings. Some shows include rock-garden exhibits.
