Floriculture

Floriculture, the cultivation of ornamental flowering plants. The term is applied particularly to commercial flower growing. Floriculturists supply customers with cut flowers, potted plants, and plants to be transplanted in gardens. They also produce seeds, bulbs, corms, and tubers from which plants can be grown.

An important aspect of floriculture involves the introduction of new and improved plant varieties. These are introduced from abroad, selected from mutations, or produced by hybridizing.
