His and Her Cupcakes

YIELD Makes 24 cupcakes

INGREDIENTS

1 package (18-1/4 ounces) cake mix, any flavor, plus ingredients to prepare mix 1 container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting 3 rolls (3/4 ounce each) fruit leather, cut into 4X2-3/8-inch strips 12 pieces striped fruit gum Red food coloring 24 vanilla wafer cookies Small candies

PREPARATION:

1. Line 24 standard (2-1/2-inch) muffin pan cups with paper liners or spray with nonstick cooking spray. Prepare and bake cake mix in prepared muffin cups according to package directions. Cool in pans on wire racks 15 minutes. Remove cupcakes to racks; cool completely.
2. For "His" cupcakes, frost 12 cupcakes. Place 1 strip fruit leather on each frosted cupcake to form shirt collar. Cut gum into tie shapes and place on cupcakes.
3. For "Her" cupcakes, tint remaining frosting pink with food coloring. Frost remaining cupcakes with tinted frosting. Use dab of frosting to sandwich two vanilla wafer cookies together. Repeat with remaining cookies. Frost cookie sandwiches pink. Top each cupcake with frosted cookie sandwich, placing slightly off-center for crown of hat. Decorate hats with fruit leather and candies.
