Illinois Institute of Technology
Illinois Institute of Technology, a privately controlled institution of higher learning in Chicago. It includes colleges of architecture, business administration, design, engineering and science, law, and liberal arts. Also on the campus are the IIT (formerly Armour) Research Institute, Institute of Gas Technology, and the Association of American Railroads Research Center. The campus was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and has been called the “best architectural expression of a technological school in the world.” IIT was organized in 1940 through the merger of the Armour Institute of Technology (founded in 1892) and the Lewis Institute (founded 1896).
