Haskell Indian Nations University

Haskell Indian Nations University, an institution of higher learning for American Indians. It is funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Haskell is located on a 320-acre (130-hectare) campus at Lawrence, Kansas. It offers two-year programs in liberal arts and sciences and business and a bachelor's degree in education. Haskell was created by Congress in 1882 and opened in 1884 as the United States Indian Industrial Training School. It became Haskell Institute in 1894 and Haskell Indian Junior College in 1970; its present name was adopted in 1993. The university serves more than 140 tribes.
