Johns Hopkins University, anonsectarian, private university in Baltimore, Maryland. At the university's Homewood campus on the north side of Baltimore, undergraduate and graduate programs are offered in liberal arts, natural sciences, and engineering. The medical school, hospital, school of hygiene and public health, and school of nursing are on the east side of Baltimore. The university also maintains a school of international studies in Washington, D.C. The Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Applied Physics Laboratory are also divisions of the university.

The university was established in 1867 with a 3.5-million-dollar bequest from Johns Hopkins, a United States businessman.
