Jacques Laramie
Laramie, Jacques (?–1821?), an American fur trapper. Little is known of Laramie's life. He was probably born in Canada and his name may have been La Ramée or Lorimier. About 1819 Laramie entered the unexplored country of southeast Wyoming. He is supposed to have been the first white man to reach the northern part of the Laramie River.
Laramie was found killed by Indians in the spring of 1821. Named for him are Fort Laramie, Laramie Peak, the Laramie Mountains, the Laramie River, Laramie Basin or Laramie Plains, Laramie County and the city of Laramie.
