Margaret of Anjou
Margaret of Anjou, (1430–1482), the queen of Henry VI of England. Margaret was born in France. She married Henry in 1445. When the Wars of the Roses broke out in 1455 she became leader of the House of Lancaster. She did much to prevent a peaceful settlement by her uncompromising hatred of the Yorkists. After the Battle of Tewkesbury (1471) Margaret was imprisoned and her husband and son were put to death. She was freed in 1476 and returned to France.
