Hardecanute
Hardecanute, or Hardicanute, (more correctly Harthacnut)(1019?–1042), king of Denmark, 1035–42, and of England, 1040–42. Hardecanute was the last Danish king of England. He claimed the English throne in 1035, on the death of his father, Knut (Canute), but his illegitimate half-brother, Harold Harefoot, was elected king instead. Harold died in 1040 while Hardecanute was preparing an invasion of England, and Hardecanute was crowned soon after arriving in England with a large fleet. Hardecanute was an oppressive and unpopular ruler. He was succeeded by Edward the Confessor.
