Long Island Sound

Long Island Sound, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean separating Connecticut and Long Island. It is about 90 miles (145 km) long and from 3 to 20 miles (5 to 32 km) wide. The Housatonic, Connecticut, Mystic, Thames, and Pawcatuck rivers flow into its waters. New Haven, New London, and Bridgeport are on the sound.
