Geography of Flin Flon
Flin Flon, Canada, a city on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, about 375 miles (600 km) northwest of Winnipeg. Deposits of gold, copper, zinc, silver, cadmium, selenium, and tellurium make it an important mining and smelting center. Gold was discovered here in 1915. The strike was named “Flin Flon” for Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin, a fictional character who discovered gold in the center of the earth. The city of Flin Flon grew around a copper mine opened in 1927.
