Geography of Konya
Konya, or Konia, Turkey, a city in the south-central part of the country. Konya lies on a fertile plain of the Anatolian plateau. It manufactures carpets, cotton and silk goods, and leather goods.
In ancient times Konya, known as Iconium, was a large and wealthy city. Saint Paul visited the city as a missionary. The Seljuk Turks conquered Konya during 1072-74 and made it their capital soon after. In 1472 the city became part of the Ottoman Empire.
