Plain of Esdraelon

Esdraelon, Plain of, a section of northern Israel in the Jezreel Valley. The plain covers roughly 200 square miles (500 km2). It extends 25 miles (40 km) northwest-southeast between the Jordan Valley near Beisan and the southeastern foot of Mount Carmel, near Haifa. The Plain of Esdraelon separates the Biblical lands of lower Galilee (north) and Samaria (south). It is an agricultural region traversed by the Kishon River. The plain is the site of Megiddo, a battlefield in Biblical times and again in World War I.
