Geography of Goteborg

Göteborg, or Gothenburg, Sweden, the seat of Göteborg and Bohus County. It is 250 miles (400 km) southwest of Stockholm on the coast at the mouth of the Göta River, across Kattegat Strait from the northern tip of Denmark. Göteborg is Sweden's chief seaport and second largest city. Shipbuilding is its leading industry. Also manufactured here are automobiles, metal goods, textiles, chinaware, and food products. The city has numerous museums, including a nautical museum and a museum of theatrical history.

Göteborg was founded in 1619 by King Gustavus Adolphus. It grew as a trade center in the late 1700's, attracting English and Scottish businessmen.
