Geography of Taejon

Taejon, South Korea, the capital of South Chungchong province. It lies near the Kum River about 85 miles (137 km) southeast of Seoul, the national capital. Taejon is in the heart of a rich agricultural region where rice is the principal crop. It is a regional trade center and has food-processing, silk, and leather industries. In 1950, during the Korean War, Taejon suffered heavy damage when it was captured by the North Koreans.
