Pusan, South Korea, the second largest city in the nation and one of four South Korean cities with provincial status. It is in the southeastern part of the country on the Korea Strait, about 200 miles (320 km) southeast of Seoul, the national capital. Pusan is the largest and oldest port in Korea and is also a major railway terminus and an industrial center. Textile mills, shipyards, iron and chemical works, and plants processing rice and other foods are here. Pusan was the chief United Nations supply point during the Korean War.
