Kizil River, or Kizil Irmak, the longest river within Asiatic Turkey. It is more than 700 miles (1,100 km) long. Its source is in the mountains of north-central Turkey, from where it flows in a great arc to the Black Sea. Kizil Irmak means “Red River.” In ancient times it was known as the Halys.
