The Deccan Plateau

Deccan, a triangular tableland that covers most of peninsular India. Its northern limits are the Satpura Range and Chota Nagpur Plateau. Escarpments, called the Eastern and Western Ghats, form the other boundaries of the triangle and are connected at its apex by the Nilgiri, Anaimalai, and Cardamom hills. The average elevation of the plateau is 2,000 feet (600 m) above sea level. The surface slopes from 3,000 feet (900 m) in the west to 1,500 feet (450 m) in the east.

The Deccan is heavily populated. It has rich soil and produces many crops, mainly cotton.
