Geography of Panmunjom
, a village in the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea. It is about 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Seoul. The armistice ending the Korean War was signed here July 27, 1953, after two years of negotiations. Prisoners of war were exchanged through Panmunjom. It continues to function as a meeting place for representatives of North Korea and the United Nations.
