Manila Bay

Manila Bay, an inlet of the South China Sea in the southwestern part of the island of Luzon, Philippine Islands. It covers 770 square miles (1,994 km2). Shielded by Bataan Peninsula, the bay is one of the world's best natural harbors. Corregidor Island divides the entrance into two channels, about 2 miles (3.2 km) and 6.5 miles (10.5 km) wide. Manila and Cavite are the main ports. The Spanish navy was defeated here during the Spanish-American War, 1898. Bataan and Corregidor were sites of American defeats by the Japanese early in World War II.
