Geography of Ibadan
Ibadan, Nigeria, one of the nation's largest cities and the capital of Oyo state. It is northeast of Lagos, the national capital, in the southwestern corner of Nigeria. Ibadan is the commercial center of a rich agricultural area and produces a variety of handicrafts, processed foods, and household and personal items. The city is on the Lagos-Kano railway and is served by highways and airlines. The University of Ibadan and several agricultural research institutes are here. Ibadan was founded about 1830 and became one of the chief settlements of the Yoruba people. It grew as a commercial center after the arrival of the railway in 1901.
