Geography of Bizerte
Bizerte, or Bizerta, Tunisia, a seaport and the northernmost city in Africa. It is on a channel leading from the Lake of Bizerte. Bizerte has foundries and also produces olive oil, flour, brick, tile, and canned fish. Bizerte was colonized by Phoenicians from ancient Tyre. It was ruled by the Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs, and Turks until occupied by the French in 1881. A German base in World War II, the city was heavily bombarded.
