Germiston, South Africa, a city in the province of Gauteng nine miles (14 km) southeast of Johannesburg. Germiston is in the center of the Witwatersrand gold field and has the world's largest gold refinery. The city's factories produce explosives, steel products, chemicals, clothing, and agricultural tools.
