Thrift
Thrift, or Sea Pink, the common name for a genus of perennial herbs. There are about 50 species, most of them native to the Old World. Thrifts have evergreen leaves that grow in bunches close to the ground. The flowers grow at the end of a stem that is 2 to 12 inches (5 to 30 cm) long; they are pink, lilac, or white. Thrifts are especially suited for cultivation in rock and seaside gardens as well as for ground covers.
Thrifts make up the genus Armeria of the leadwort family, Plumbaginaceae. The common thrift, the most popular cultivated species, is A. maritima. Thrifts are sometimes listed under the genus Statice.
