Mimosa
Mimosa,a genus of trees shrubs, and herbs related to the acacia. The mimosa is native chiefly to tropical America. Most species bear thorns. The feathering leaves consist of small, flat leaflets that grow opposite each other. In most species, the leaves close for a time if touched. The globe-shaped clusters of small white or pinkish flowers are followed by flat pods that separate into one-seeded joints when ripe. The sensitive plant is a mimosa.
The mimosa belongs to the pea family, Leguminosae.
