Catnip
Catnip, or Catmint, a plant of the mint family. It originally came from Europe, and now is found throughout North America in shady spots around farm buildings and under pasture fences. The plant has a square stem. The soft, hairy, heart-shaped leaves are green above and whitish below. Catnip bears clusters of small white flowers, dotted with purple or rose.
Cats are especially fond of catnip, rubbing themselves upon it and eating it. Catnip tea was at one time a popular remedy for colds and colic.
Catnip is Nepeta cataria of the family Lamiaceae.
