Henbane, a coarse herb native to Europe and Asia and common in North America. It grows from 18 to 30 inches (45 to 75 cm) high and has large, hairy leaves; yellowish flowers; and a disagreeable odor. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Henbane is a source of the alkaloid drugs hyoscyamine and hyoscine (scopolamine), which are used as sedatives and pain killers.
