Bracken, or Brake, a common woodland fern. The fronds (leaves) of the bracken are divided into many segments. They grow on glossy black stems that become very tough as the plant grows older. The fronds grow up to 4 feet (1.2 m) high in temperate regions, and may be more than 12 feet (3.6 m) tall in the tropics.

Bracken is Pteridium aquilinum of the family Polypodiaceae.
