Broom
Broom, one of a group of ornamental shrubs of the pea family. Brooms have dense clusters of yellow flowers and produce small, flat pods containing the fruit. They are planted outdoors in the southern United States and are also grown in greenhouses. Genista, which is native to the Canary Islands, is a popular florist plant. Scotch broom is an evergreen that grows to a height of 10 feet (3 m).
Brooms belong to the family Leguminosae. Genista is Cytisus canariensis; Scotch broom, C. scoparius. Other plants called brooms belong to the genera Genista, Notospartium, and Spartium.
