Dispersion. In chemistry, a dispersion is a mixture consisting of small particles of one substance distributed throughout another. In physics, the term refers to the separation of electromagnetic or other kinds of waves into component waves of different wavelengths. An example of this process is the separation of white light into the colors of the visible spectrum.
