Kleptomania

Kleptomania, an irrational, irresistible impulse to steal. Kleptomaniacs frequently steal things that are of little value and utterly useless to them, and they often steal with little or no attempt at concealment. They obtain pleasure from the act of stealing, not from the possession of the things stolen. Kleptomania usually takes the form of shoplifting, and is more common in women than in men.

Kleptomania is evidence of mental illness, and most experts believe that it is best treated as a medical, rather than a criminal, problem; however, distinguishing between kleptomania and common theft can be difficult.
