Sir Isaac Brock
Brock, Sir Isaac (1769–1812), a British general in the War of 1812. He was born on the island of Guernsey, and entered the army at 15. He became a colonel and was sent to Canada in 1802. Brock was named military commander of Quebec in 1806 and was given command of Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1810. The following year he was promoted to major general. In August, 1812, Brock, with a small band of soldiers and Indians, captured a larger American force under General William Hull at Detroit. He was knighted shortly before his death in the Battle of Queenston Heights, in October.
