William Weatherford
Weatherford, William (Indian name: Red Eagle, or Lamochattee)(1780?–1824), chief of the Creek Indians in the war against the United States, 1813–14. He led the Creeks in the massacre of settlers at Fort Mimms, Alabama, August 30, 1813. Major General Andrew Jackson defeated the Creeks decisively at Horseshoe Bend of the Tallapoosa River, Alabama. Weatherford made his way to Jackson's tent and surrendered personally. He was freed on his promise to work for peace.
