Quanah
Quanah, or Quanah Parker (1845?–1911), a Comanche Indian leader. He headed 700 Comanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne warriors on June 24, 1874, in an attack on buffalo hunters at Adobe Walls, Texas. The attack failed, but Quanah continued fighting, raiding, and plundering for three years. He then surrendered, adopted the white settlers' ways, and became a leader of the allied tribes in their relations with the government. He made many trips to Washington and was a friend of President Theodore Roosevelt.
Quanah was the son of Cynthia Ann Parker, captured at the age of 12 at Parker's Fort, Texas, by Kwahadi Comanches led by Nokoni. Later she became Nokoni's wife. After being rescued by troops many years later, she chose to rejoin the Comanches but died before she could do so.
