Independence Hall
Independence Hall, a historic brick building in Philadelphia that has become a symbol of liberty. The Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution were signed here. The Liberty Bell, now housed in a display center across the street, formerly hung in the tower. Independence Hall was built between 1732 and 1757. It was then known as Pennsylvania State House and the assembly held its sessions there. The Continental Congress met in Independence Hall, 177583. The name Independence Hallcame into general use in the mid-19th century. The building is part of Independence National Historical Park, established in 1956.
