Harman Blennerhassett
Blennerhasset, Harman (1765–1831), an Anglo-American adventurer and associate of Aaron Burr. Blennerhasset and his wife migrated to America and in 1798 settled on an island in the Ohio River near Parkersburg (now in West Virginia). Here he built a lavish estate and furnished it with art treasures.
In 1805 Blennerhasset began stockpiling military supplies for Burr. Burr's intentions were not clear, but it is believed that he intended to seize territory in the west. Becoming suspicious, the county militia raided his island and looted his home. Blennerhassett escaped, but was later arrested on a charge of treason. However, he was not tried and was released. He later moved to Montreal and in 1822 returned to Europe.
