Jean Lambert Tallien
Tallien, Jean Lambert (1767–1820), a leader of the French Revolution. As a member of the radical Jacobin Club he took an active part in the Reign of Terror under the leadership of Danton and Robespierre. In 1794 he found himself in danger of being arrested by Robespierre for being too lenient. Tallien became one of the leaders of the group that overthrew Robespierre and ended the worst excesses of the Reign of Terror. After 1795 his political influence declined. Tallien was born in Paris and first became widely known by publishing a revolutionary journal, Friend of the Citizens (1791).
