Macbeth

Macbeth , king of Scotland, 1040–57. Macbeth murdered King Duncan I and claimed the throne through his wife's royal descent. He appears to have been a capable ruler, and his reign was a time of prosperity. In 1054, however, Duncan's son Malcolm invaded Scotland with English support. Macbeth was defeated and slain in the Battle of Lumphanan (1057), and Malcolm became King Malcolm III.
