Ithaca

Ithaca, , one of the Ionian Islands of Greece. Ithaca is in the Ionian Sea, 30 miles (50 km) west of the mainland. The area is 37 square miles (96 km 2 ). In Homer's Iliad and Odyssey , Ithaca is the home of the hero Odysseus (Ulysses). Heinrich Schliemann (1822–1890) was the first of many archeologists who tried, unsuccessfully, to find evidence to support Homer.
